IDEA

What is it?
The Interactive Driver Education App (IDEA) is a new training aid, designed for Android tablet PCs, for driver trainers of all types of vehicles.

What does it do?
We are developing IDEA to do many things (more on that later), but its main function is to become the indispesible aid to the professional driver trainer. We will be releasing the app in phases with each phase being delivered as a downloadable upgrade.
Phase 1 -  Main features include:

  • Road Maps including T-junctions, Crossroads, Roundabouts and Crossings
  • tap and drop selection of vehicle types, including cars, trucks, PCV, emergency vehicles and motorcycles
  • tap and drag and rotate vehicles and objects on the Road Maps
  • Drawing Tool, allows you and your students to add your own touches to the map
  • Trainer’s Toolkit including a Mock Test form, Show Me, Tell Me forms and a whole bunch of forms that you can print off or send via email

Here’s how it works
Tap the IDEA app icon and up pops the Splash Screen (above)…
then the Home Screen (below)

Select Road Maps or Trainer’s Toolbox
Let’s tap Road Maps…

Now you have the choice of maps – T-Junctions,Crossroads, Roundabouts, Crossings, Meeting and Manoeuvres
Let’s tap Roundabouts

The map offers you a selection of different types of Roundabout including mini, double-mini, spiral, multi and single-lane.

Now, double tap on the roundabout you want..

or…

or…

or one of the 7 others.

Select your vehicles or othe road users from the ‘Objects’ icons and drop-down menus…

Like a fire engine.

Position and rotate using drag and touch controls at the bottom left corner.

Add other elements, like pedestrians, cyclists, motorcycles etc

Phase 2 – Main features include:

  • Traffic Signs Flash Cards. Categorised for easy access these flash cards can be used to quiz your students or illustrate road situations
  • Image bank. A collection of real life situations captured and categorised for easy access through the menu icons

Phase 3 – Main features include

  • Lots more on the way

This is the ideal training aid that can be used in vehicle and in the training room*

Why Android?
Ideas4ADIs has chosen to develop IDEA for Android initially because we believe it offers you more choice. The iPad was the tablet of 2010, but last year saw the rise of the Adroid system and this range offers more choice with regard to price, make, functionality and specification.
